STRUCTURE AND PERSONALITY

I decided to propose a new design for the website of my local music school (Bachschool) where attend my piano lessons. I offered to design and develop the website for free. At first glance I felt that the website was quite outdated and lacked any personality. I wanted to show them a more modern design that communicated them as a music school better.

current design

As a visitor, I felt overwhelmed. There are no clear headings to guide you through the page. Questions that visitors looking for music lessons might have are not answered on the homepage. Such as: Which instruments can you learn and who teaches them?

Instead, you only see information about upcoming concerts, news, and a photo gallery. So you have to rely on the header to answer these questions.

Redesign

For the Bachschool, I wanted to create a fun, playful, informal, and welcoming look.

I used the red color of the logo as a guideline to put together a color palette. I ended up with red (representing energy and creativity), purple (for expression), and orange (representing enthusiasm).

To continue the playful and informal look, I chose rounded fonts, corners and buttons.

To give the website more structure and answer visitors’ questions without them having to make much effort, I made the navigation in the header simple and clear.

The hero encourages visitors to discover which music lessons are offered. With a simple overview of figures about what the Bachschool has to offer.

I added a review section to give visitors an extra incentive to take lessons. This way, I let the students speak for the school.

Finally, there is a striking block that encourages visitors to request a trial lesson.
